Well it seems like I am just getting worse at working on this journal that I originally said I would update every week or two… Now that it has been a little over a month this is some of the things that have been going on that prevented me from working on my journal.

We lost Konnor’s Great Grandma Boles on March 10th, she was one of the strongest people we have ever known and helped make Ken the great person he is today. We miss you Grandma!!

Konnor had a great Easter. Aunt Donna & Hunter invited him to an Easter Egg hunt put on by Uncle Stuart’s work. He had a blast, they got to decorate their own bags, the egg hunt of course and an egg relay. Everyone there was so nice and helpful with Konnor and he had a wonderful time. We had a big dinner the next day at grandma’s and of course another egg hunt.

The last couple weeks have been very trying on all of us. For those of you who don’t know Konnor developed a biting problem in Dec. of 2006, he got a fat lip from a toy that fell on him and he fixated on biting it. It seemed like no one could help us, the doctors we went to told us to go to a dentist. The dentist told us to go to an Orthodontist, and the orthodontist told us to go to a pediatric dentist… During this time of being told to go here and there Konnor almost had a hole bit through his lip. This is also when he started using a binky, when he would spit it out and bit we tied string around it strapped to his head. When that didn’t work we moved onto a wooden dowel strapped in his mouth, just imagine a horse with a bit in it’s mouth. Give him a few days with something new and he would learn to bit around it… We didn’t’ go out in public much during this time, I was afraid someone would turn me in for child abuse.

By the time we made it into se Dr. Downey our favorite pediatric dentist I was in tears. After many different attempts with putting blocks on his teeth we ended up having a special retainer made that didn’t allow him to bite his lip and was put in with permanent cement (which he had broken in 4 spots with in a month). Just about the same time we spoke to Konnor’s Botox Dr. who is a Neuro at Shriner’s, she suggested a medication that has been shown to help children with compulsive issues…

Many tears & lost nights of sleep

Over $2000 in dentist bills

One High Blood Pressure Medication

Having your child not mutilate themselves uncontrollably ~ PRICELESS!

Of course it seems like it is starting all over again, this time it is the inside of his cheek. Although he has stopped doing it at Rachel’s (Konnor’s babysitter) and just does it with us now. He may be moving into Rachel’s soon if he doesn’t stop. We were able to get an appointment with the Neuro to discuss this meds, they were able to squeeze us in April 30th, that was after I pleaded and begged.!!

All of this is of course is getting in the way of his therapy…. He will not take his binky out of his mouth so he can’t really work on his speech. You don’t want to make him stress out by doing PT when he doesn‘t want to (which is most of the time). We didn’t even let him go back to Pre-School this week.

Sorry for such a long entry, hopefully next time it won’t take me so long to update it…
